How to Attract Customers to Your Bar

Whether you own a local sports bar or a smokey jazz bar, encouraging new customers to come in for a drink should be one of your top priorities. If you’re located on a busy strip of several bars and eateries then it’s important that you stand out from the rest, just as quieter locations should encourage people to make the trip out to them.

So, what can you do to attract new customers?

Atmosphere

Noone wants to go to a bar where the atmosphere is dead. In fact, they’ll avoid at all costs. It doesn’t matter whether your customers are coming out for just a couple of evening drinks or a full night out, it’s important that you create a good mood in your bar as this will encourage them to stay longer and return. Simply playing some background music can change the atmosphere - think about the mood you’re trying to create, slow music is relaxing while chart songs could attract a younger crowd.

Entertainment & events

Why not hire a live band to entertain your customers? Live music is always a winner, as it helps to put people in a good mood. Alternatively, you could also organise monthly events such as themed nights, a special drinks menu or unique entertainment. Make the most of seasonal periods such as summer, Halloween, Christmas, New Years - these are times when people are willing to splash out a little so make sure you have something planned. Grab customers attention with fun events, and don’t forget to advertise your event and entertainment across social media.

Promotions

Everyone loves a deal, so why not offer exclusive deals and promotions to new customers? Free drinks, 2 for 1 and money off are all attractive offers, and are great ways of encouraging new people into your bar. If you have an app, this could work by sending these deal straight to their inbox or as a QR code to be scanned. Alternatively, you could set up a stamp system, where customers get a stamp for every drink they buy, with discount along the way.
