Buying or selling a house is an exciting yet stressful process. With so much to organise, decide and sort out, the process of buying or selling up can be somewhat overwhelming - and therefore it’s crucial that you have the right legal team to assist you.

In this blog, we share our top tips for moving house and how to make the process as stress-free as possible.

Find the right conveyancer

Firstly, it’s important that you have the right conveyancer on board. When choosing a solicitor to complete the property sale for you, make sure you choose a specialist conveyancing or property solicitor as not all solicitors are trained in the area of conveyancing.

A fully trained and licensed conveyancer is qualified solely for the conveyancing process, making them both an expert and specialist in this area. They’ll study the draft contract in detail and highlight any areas which require investigation, complete property searches and finalise the process by exchanging the deeds, paying any stamp duty due on the property and ensure the change of ownership is registered with the land registry.

Receive weekly updates from your conveyancer

Keeping on top of the moving process is key. While your conveyancer is there to take the stress out of the move for you, it’s important that you are regularly in contact with them and receive the appropriate updates. It’s best to agree a day when your conveyancer will contact you and provide you with any updates. This information should then be passed on to your estate agent so that everyone is in the loop and updated. It’s extremely important that everyone involved knows exactly what stage of the process they’re at in order to keep things running smoothly.

Instruct your conveyancer as soon as possible

Instructing is a term regularly used in the property and conveyancing industry, and it simply means telling your chosen conveyancer to act for you and to start work. Remember, the conveyancer takes care of the paperwork and legal side of things for you, so it’s important that you instruct your conveyancer as early as possible if you want to minimise delays and speed up the process.

As there is so much to be done in preparation for your move, instructing your conveyancer as early as possible can make a huge difference to the timescale.
