Tips for Preparing Your Property for Viewings

Cleaning your house for sale

As soon as your house is on the market, it’s time to start preparing your property for viewings. One of the most important aspects of selling any home is providing a memorable viewing - and this means taking some steps to ensure your house is ready beforehand. When it comes to selling a property, first impressions really do count. Follow our top tips below to ensure your property is ready to sell.

Let the light in

Welcoming natural light into your home is key. Not only will this brighten up the interior of your property, but it makes rooms look more appealing, spacious and welcoming. There’s nothing pleasant about dull and dark rooms - so make sure the curtains are open and the windows clean!

Declutter each room

It goes without saying, your house should be tidied and cleaned before viewings. However, eliminating clutter is key. It can be difficult for people to imagine living in your property if it’s cluttered with all of your junk, so make the effort to have a good clear out and get rid of any clutter lying around. This will make rooms appear more spacious and open up living spaces.

Tidy up outside

The first thing viewers are going to see when approaching your property is the exterior, so it’s important that your house looks appealing from the pavement. Tidy up your front garden - mow the lawn, trim back hedges, tidy the bins, powerwash the path and get rid of any weeds. Sprucing up the exterior of your property also makes all the difference; a fresh lick of paint and sparkling clean windows will make your home stand out.

Pay attention to the small details

Take the time to complete those odd jobs and repairs around the house that you’ve been ignoring. Replace old light bulbs around the house and fill in any holes in the walls. Small things such as a damaged fence, broken door handles and worn out skirting boards can bring down the aesthetic of your property - so make the effort to fix these issues before you have visitors.
